This bottle was made by Maestro Mezcalero Don Emiliano Santos. Emiliano is from La Nopalera, Miahutlán, Oaxaca, is 56 years old and 3rd generation mezcal producer. He was taught the craft by his father, and he is continuing the family tradition by passing down knowledge to his relatives and children. He loves making mezcal from the agaves that grow on his land and will crush them by hand whenever possible. For this expression of Tepextate he used a wooden mallet for extracting the juices and separate the fibres of the cooked agaves. Emiliano enjoys making and drinking Bicuixe, but also likes working with Madrecuixe, Tepextate, and Cucharilla as well as making blends. He uses only one distillation with refrescadera, a method that is known in this area of Oaxaca. Tepextate maguey takes approximately 30 to 35 years to mature, this is 150 litres batch made in March 2023.
